Portland, ND | It all comes down to what the adjusters figures the test weight at. If it is under 46 lbs, and the moisture is still high, the adjustment factors will play a large part. If it is a crappy stand like he says, that usually means a crappy yield also. If the test weight is low, they can use a factor of .5 for the yield number. Throw in a big number for shrink, and pretty soon you have a really low yield number.
It will come down to the point where mudracer will have to decide how much of his guarantee he is willing to give up to make a harvest decision. The fact that it black layered is less of a concern to the adjuster than if it is low test weight.
