Subject: RE: What to do with unharvested corn fields

Earlton Ontario
We a rolling it down with a 40' steel drum roller up and down the rows. We then are using a 14'6" Howard Rotovator on AGCO 250. We are tilling at 1000 rpm 3" of dirt into chopped stocks at 8 mph..........Costing one gallon per acre of fuel vs 2 gallon per with the 8 furrow plow. We will then no-till canola or soys in next spring which will save another 2.5 gallons/acre over conventional tillage after the plow.

I thought about leaving for no-till but i like a bit of dirt on stover and am afraid of volunteer corn. Have heard guys in the past say that the whole cobs on-top the soil makes it difficult to keep the disk openers in the soil the following spring. And after walking behind what the roller is doing I see why..........(#@^% severely twisted ankle!)
