Subject: RE: Anyone get a hip replacement?

West Central Wisconsin
I had hip replacement this past June at 59 years of age. Everyone said there would be very little pain so I was surprised at how much I had. I've had three discectomies and didn't think any of them had the pain the hip surgery did. I'm not a good one for doing recovery exercises, other than walking, so I'm still not fully recovered. My recovery issues have been muscle strength and I feel it may be because of the number of years I've been favoring my bad hip. I still have trouble going upstairs or up a ladder without leading with my strong leg one step at a time. I actually believe climbing the combine and bin ladders helped strengthen my muscles the most. I've been hunting deer this past week and still feel my hips tighten while walking, especially uneven terrain. Not sure what you mean by brand of hip so can't comment. If my other hip ever needs to be replaced I wouldn't hesitate doing it but I would try to strengthen the muscles in that leg long before surgery.
