It's to bad the gov't hasn't kept up with the pace of Ag. I got a beginning farmer loan back in the early 90's, limit was 200K, bought a 160 for just under the limit. today with land values they way they are, you're to buy 40A. Don't quote me but I thought it was raised to 300K. Granted 40A would be better than nothing, but maybe the gov't thinking that to many would get in trouble buying $5000/acre ground, then $2.00 would break them. There is the tax break for renting to a young farmer, but it seems like all the big guys have to do is raise the rent by $10 and it offsets the tax for the landowner.
