Last I heard, if you do not use the clutch when shifting while taking the test, you fail. Remember, government people wrote the rules for cdls, not actual truck drivers. No, I don't use the clutch when I drive, but I was also taught to drive semi, old school. 238 Detroit in a GMC Astro with a 10 speed. You learned to shift quickly, or you never got anywhere, cause you were always starting over.
