Oklahoma | I have hit 3 deer over the last few years. Luckily no injuries and not too bad of damage to the car (2 hoods and 3 headlights total, minor fender damage). I have had the whistles on my car for the last two encounters. Like other posts have said, the ones I have hit, came out of no where and I didn't see them until they were there. The second one I hit had to have jumped over guardrail to run in front of me because I was on a bridge. That being said, I do think that they have possibly reduced my encounters. I notice lots of deer standing on the side of the road now looking at me and giving me time to lock them up. This time of year when they are in rut and everyone is cracking a shot at them, all bets are off. This time of year I will see at least one a day.
If I was driving pickup, I would just spend the money and buy a grill guard. When my grandpa was alive he swore that the guard would pay off if he hit a deer and this was back before deer were so overpopulated. | |
