MO | Having spent many hours running 4890, 4894, JD 8450, and JD8650, it kills me to admit that a 4894 isn't too bad a tractor. You have to like crawling around on the ground a lot to grease them, and they need it daily. The engines are EXPENSIVE, but last a long time if maintained. We put a Scandi back in the 4890 at 9,000 hr, but if it comes due again, it's 855 time. They are 10X easier to work on than the JDs. We sold our 4894 with about 8,000 hrs, completely original paint and engine, no leaks, a pretty decent tractor for $14,000 last spring. Almost had to give it away. They are a CASE though, so they will nickle and dime you until the day they leave the farm. | |
