mason county, central Illinois
We are in the market for a tandem with an automatic transmission for one of my older drivers to run. I am currently runnind a semi with hopper and 1979 C70. Thinking I would like as big a tandem as we could get for a non cdl driver to operate to replace the chev. What I wanted to know is should I hold out for a truck with 18k+ front ends on it or would 12k with a with a lifting tag be alright. Would the extra weigh of the tag be take away to much net weight to mess with? Is a double frame a must? I would like at least a 20 ft box. I know a semi is much preffered but I have good help that has no desire to get cdl, and I dont blame them. We are located in Illinois, and are in an area where being legal is important as we are checked often at harvest. (DOT) Thank for your thoughts.
