Subject: RE: FMX to Raven Serial

Has anyone used a FMX to go to a Raven 440 with a serial cable.

I can get it to comunicate but the rate doesn't come across correctly.

If I set the rate on the FMX @ 1gpa it sends 9.3 to the Raven.

Any ideas?

Thinking out loud now --

What happens if you set the Raven up in Metric (SI) ?

Don't know why that should help since the Raven should display the rate it has received which it would seem would still be the 9.3.

Seems like the problem must be on the FMX end - it seems as if some conversion is being applied which is not desired. Is there some menu item where a conversion can be entered? Maybe this is defaulting to 9.3 for some reason.

Later edit: After checking I find that there are 2.47 acres in 1 hectare and that 1 Liter equals 1.057 Quarts. Of course, there are 4 Quarts in 1 Gallon.

Doing the conversion of 2.47 acres/ha X 4 Quarts/Gallon X 1 liter/1.057 Quarts = 9.347 leads me to believe that applying 1 Gallon/acre is equivalent to applying 9.347 ( 9.3 rounded) liters/hectare.

Since entering a target rate of 1 Gallon/acre seems to produce a target rate on 9.3 on the Raven side this metric conversion must be entering into the picture. Why I don't know. It almost seems like an error.

If so, what's the workaround? Well maybe entering in a counteracting conversion number (the reciprocal of the 9.3 = .107) might get a target rate on the FMX of 1 to come across to the Raven as 1 which would be desirable. It doesn't seem like this should be necessary but might work.
