Subject: RE: pictures to website - lesson 1

West Union, Illinois

Once you figure it out you'll smack yourself side of the head for making it seem so difficult.

There are 2 ways of putting pictures on here.  The first is to link to pictures already online.  For instance photos on a Photobucket.com account or photos already some web site.

And I need to pause here since you said you are computer illiterate.  Are you familiar with "right clicking"?  I'm going to post a photo here shortly that is already online.  I got  it by going to the page it is on, moving the cursor on top of it, and clicking the right button on my mouse (right clicking). It opened a box with several options, one of which was copy image location.  Depending on what internet browser you use it might look slightly different.

Something else to learn is the keyboard shortcuts for copy and paste.  You can highlight text then hold down the Ctrl button and touch c (Ctrl + c) and it will copy it.  If you hold down the Ctrl button and touch v it will paste whatever is on you clipboard.  This is important because in a bit I'm going to tell you to paste a location your computer saved to the clipboard. Ctrl + v is a wonderful shortcut

Back to our lesson.

Open a new tab in your browser and go to the page  with the picture you want.  I'm going to go to http://walnutprairie.blogspot.com/ and use one of the photos from there. I found the photo I wanted, right clicked and hit copy image location.

Now then, I came back here and on the toolbar at the top of the page clicked the box that has a tree in it.  It popped up a box with a place for Image URL.  I placed my cursor in the box, held down the Ctrl button and touched v.  It pasted the location of the photo in the box.  If you click one of the other boxes it will preview the photo. Scroll to the bottom (you may have to grab the box and pull it up a little) and click the Insert button.

Clear as mud?

I'm going to post this as lesson 1, then we'll move on to posting pictures from your computer.

Oh, and feel free to email me direct if you want to ask a few questions privately.
