Subject: RE: IH Cyclo Planters Questions

East of Broken Bow
Had an 800 with dry fertilizer, then a 950 with dry fertilizer.

If you have the no-till (I think at the time they were called high-residue) fertilizer openers, you'll be fine. The ones we had, were double-disk, similar setup to a True-Vee seed opener. Worked fine, but didn't interfere with the seed placement in a 2X2 setup. They were just spring-loaded, and depth was regulated by the toolbar height. If you weren't applying dry fertilizer, you could pin them up, out of the way, pretty easily.
Any headaches we had, were from the fertilizer itself, and not the openers. It would cake up in humid conditions, gum up the metering augers if you had a foggy day, and were a real pain in the rear, trying to get the boxes to empty out evenly, as you finished a field. If you left the planter outside, and it was caught in an unexpected rain, you expected to have problems with the fertilizer, and pulling the augers out to clean them, meant fighting whatever fertilizer was still in the boxes.
We were FAR happier, when we went to applying dry fertilizer with a spreader, and running liquid through the planter.
