you're probably not going to do any surface prep so any paint will be liable to flake off and rust worse underneath. The only paint I'd consider would be an aluminum flake paint, it will act somewhat like galvanizing with the aluminum protecting the steel. NOT anywhere near as good as hot dipped galvanized though, If you're willing to drill holes in all the hollow sections, you could get it hot dipped for about $1/lb from what I've heard.
