Subject: RE: Cat 3208

Heart of Ohio

I've had this one since 2006 in a White 4-210. One of my landlords bought it used in 1985. He had it rebuilt after one season. This included new rod and main bearings, bored the block and sleeved it, heads specked out, and added a lube finer to oil system.
The good is they'll start w/o any external assistance down to well below freezing with good batteries, pretty fuel efficient, surprisingly good torque starting out at idle or near there, especially for a V8, fluids and filters are a fraction of the cost my newer engines are, ..... and it sounds pretty cool.
This one has a pretty easy life now, but was the big horse on the farm for many years. Really like it on the grain cart.
It can be destroyed in short order if lugged to long and running to hot, (not the best tractor application). Biggest weakness is rod bearings, the two rods per journal means they are to narrow. That can be remedied by replacing them every 2500 hrs. (not that bad or expensive of a job in this tractor really). This one is approaching 10,000 hrs since that 1700 hr O/H and has served well with maintenance described. While I'm pleased with this one, I'd be cautious around a 3208 I didn't know maintenance and care of, in detail.
