| I don't know what air-cart your looking at, but most larger air-carts were designed to deliver up to around 150 lb/ac of seed and 100-150lb/ac of fertilizer at 6 mph with 40-50ft working widths (with coarse metering rollers and higher fan speeds). If your running a 8 or 12 row bar, you could deliver a lot of dry product. If you can find the operators manual, it should give you rates at different speeds and working widths.
I think strip till has a benefit further north (such as MN and ND - where soils don't warm up in the spring or corn after corn where N availability and seed placement are compromised), but as far as you are south, you might wish to consider putting fertilizer down with your planter and air-cart in one pass. Lots of guys are going this direction and are achieving the same benefits. Some guys have found fertilizing at planting time is better because the fertilizer placement is almost perfect, especially on rolling ground or on farms without RTK.
Here's more info. It's a couple of years old, but the same principals apply.
