Probably have to copy and paste it
Here's a page with the "formula" on how Childs and Warsaw did it. I always wanted to try this, but never had the time - and it takes time to build the "system". I think the guys in Sioux Co Ia are already using some of this formula. Historically, the NW IA district has not been a yield leader for the state of IA. (1920-1980) However over the last 40 years this district has been very high yielding -- mostly because of manure applications every year or every second year. (also increased drought tolerance helps) The manure not only fertilizes the current crop, but it has additional break down in year 2 and on that feeds the soil. Warsaw and Childs did this with commercial fertilizer. The guys that have been using this system with corn on corn (manure every year) are really taking off with yields. When you figure that they're fertilizing for 250 bpa corn, and having residual n release of another 50+ units, they are really building soil OM and giving a cushion for weather events. That is essentially what those guys were doing, building the soil so that the lowest stave in the bucket was not a soil related issue.
