WY, OK
Best would be '09/'10 with the 5speed auto and the plug issue is addressed in those years. Had a '09 450 with balebed and did all that you describe. Truck weighed right around 10,500 and had the 4.88 rear. Anyway feeding and doing whatever in the winter would net about 4-5mpg. Could get around 10-12 empty on highway. Obviously a little lighter truck and better rear will help some but not much. Put about 55K miles and over 4K hours on that V10 and never had one issue. For the hours it should have had 120K miles. Just ran 5w20 synthetic and a good filter changed every 5K miles, did 3K a few winters with lots of idling, and also made sure to change tranny every 30K. I actually towed a 773 Bobcat in the back of a 16' dump trailer quite often with it. Also I'd suggest manual hubs, the damn auto's like to get leaks with lots of offroad driving and you end up needing to lock them in anyway to use. Plus you can throw it in 4lo with hubs unlocked and drive slow enough to get out of truck and feed if need be and not be in 4wd.

We had two '92 460's and they were very comparable in mileage but not power. They could develop overheating issues, both ours were sticks so you'd have a clutch to do around 100K-150K. Also every one of them had the interior door handle cable eventually weaken and shear the mount. Great truck for their day but not compared to a modern SD.
