Third time in my life I've had to be involved in replacing a rusted hydrant. Brass fittings, set on a brick with pea gravel bedding, wrapped bottom fitting and couple feet of pipe with Geo fabric and put the hydrant in a 3" pvc pipe. All per suggestions from local rural water installer/cattle guy/local fixit plumber.
