Too much science to explain it properly, but it's a function of pressure flow.
The evacuator is a reservoir that holds high presssure gas until the projectile leaves the barrel. The entrance hole is angled toward the muzzle.
When the projectile leaves, and the breech is opened, the gas is directed more towards the muzzle than the breech....sorta...kinda..mostly
