Vermont | Whiteface mountain near Lake Placid is nice. There is a toll road to a parking lot near the top, then a tunnel into the mountain where you can take an elevator to the top. Bring your jacket if you go in the tunnel. You can sit down in the building on the summit with long views all around. It's worth doing.

Mount philo state park a few miles from me is nice. Has a road to the top with nice views of the lake and the Adirondacks. Google mount philo and click on images to check it out. Good place to picnic and have supper, then see the sunset over the Adirondacks.
