Cherokee County, Northwest Iowa | If your friend has lived there very long at all, they will know what to show you. My list would include the best beach on the island is Hapuna Beach State Park, a drive up to Hawi to look around and come back thru Waimea, once again to look around.. The City of Refuge National Park is one of the most peaceful places that i have ever been to. Jump in the car, take 190 and 200 across the middle of the island and check out Hilo. Regarding the volcanic activity your friend will know the score there. Enjoy lunch at Don's Beachcomber bar at the Royal Kona resort, great ocean side view with good sandwiches and a good mai tai ( I am enjoying my special reciped Mai Tai right now, awaiting the horse race in a couple of hours).
