northeast iowa | Ive been doing this for a while now. There's not a lot of money in it but it works for me. Baby calves from the sale barn can be very hard to deal with, but if you give them the right mix of drugs and care you can do alright. I only raise 6 to 8 at a time. That's all I have time for with other job and farm stuff to do. I sell as feeders at around 500lbs, but have been selling at 700lbs lately to make it worth my time with the crappy Holstein prices. As far as losing a baby calf it doesn't hurt near as bad when they are 100$ and not 300$ apiece. | |
