Subject: looking at total average selling price

If I wanted to average 4.00 for corn for a given year I sell 1/3 at 3.75, then 4, then 4.25. So for old crop I have sold the 3.75 & 4.00, but willing to hold out for a chance at the 4.25 to finish my sales. Meanwhile 3.75 is somewhat profitable so I don't mind starting my new crop sales there.
Also, I will start looking at selling new crop anytime after harvest of the old because I like having a large window to sell. But as stated above I am often willing to take less for the first few sales than I am for the last few.
Edit to say: unfortunately the first sales often times turn out to be the best
