Check with your library.  Our library participates with a website called Freegal.  Through my library account I can get 5 free (LEGAL) downloads a week.  They download as MP3.  At 5 a week it, of course takes some time, but, it is free and legal.  If you and your wife both have library cards you could do 10 a week.
