East Central SD | The "facility charge" which they changed to calling it a basic service charge is... $50 for my residence, $50 for the empty farm down the road (no house, just a building I use with an electric door opener), and $90 for the 3 PH bin site next to my house. That includes no electricity so I pay about $2,300 a year before flipping a switch. I understand the value of electricity and the need to maintain lines but recovering most of that cost through the actual electricity used is a more equitable way.... they sure aren't selling electricity at cost. I can see a small service fee - I think it started out at $20 a month but now it's getting out of hand. Just like property taxes... they do because they can. | |
