Lancaster, OH | My dad sold insurance to a guy who had a truck customizing shop in the '70's. Agents are paid based on the premiums and keeping the policy in force for a year. The guy didn't have the money for the second half of the year and dad covered it to keep the policy going--$1,500.
When he went to collect, the guy tells him that business has not been real good but, knowing dad was a horse guy, would he take a gelding they were breaking for the track and he looked like he would be really good. Dad said, "No," and took $1,500 worth of upgrades for a 4x4 short bed Ford we had at the time. That truck is rusted away and gone now.
The gelding was John Henry who won $6,000,000 on the track over his career.
Anyone who has been in the horse business can feel the burn on that one but also knows that, under different training, may have ended up a hunter/jumper for someone. | |
