McKane was arrested without incident and was being questioned by police, as of 4:30 p.m. Monday.

Sources confirmed McKane was arrested in East Bexar County, near Interstate 10 and FM 1516.

Marconi, 50, was writing a ticket in his patrol unit when McKane walked up to his car and shot him twice in the head, investigators said. He was taken to San Antonio Military Medical Center, where he died.

Marconi was a 20-year veteran of the department and a father of two from Floresville.

Since the shooting, police have been on alert and given the option of working in pairs. There was a $25,000 reward offered for information in connection with Marconi’s death.

"Most families will be celebrating the holidays. SAPD will be burying one of its own because of an ultimate act of cowardice (by) a suspect who will be caught and brought to justice," San Antonio police Chief William McManus said.

Mayor Ivy Taylor released the following statement:

Tonight, we can all breathe a little easier knowing that the suspect who maliciously killed one of our SAPD officers is in custody. I want to thank the SAPD, District Attorney’s Office, F.B.I., U.S. Marshals Office, Texas Rangers and Department of Public Safety for working through the night to follow leads, connect the dots and finally bring a successful conclusion to the search. We know that the capture of this suspect is just the beginning. There are still many questions left to answer, but I trust that investigators will do as thorough a job as possible to get to the heart of what happened and why.As a resident and Mayor of our great city, I also want to thank our citizens who have shown incredible support over the last 24 hours. We received condolences and messages of support from mayors across the country, Governor Abbott and the President’s Office, and for that I am grateful as well. Now I ask all San Antonians to keep Detective Marconi’s family, friends and colleagues in their prayers and to trust in our legal system to bring justice in this case.
