Forget the battery pack. Use those funds to buy a bigger tank- its easier to store water than electricity. "Here", we figure 20 gallons per head per day, and a 3 day reserve if its a NRCS project. so, 50 head x 20 x 3 is 3000 gallons. I'm thinking you could get away with 2/3 of that in IA. Tire tanks are critter proof and vandal proof. I don't like the tin tanks; too light if for some reason the cows rush the tank and its' low. We have a couple suppliers in MT/ND for 2000+ gallon fiberglass (8'w x 20' long) easy to set and to cage.
