I drilled about 5 acres of triticale and peas as a nurse crop earlier this spring. It is starting to take off. I was hoping to graze it but won't need it for awhile. I could graze it if that's the best use and bale the other grass ahead of the cows where they are now. Is triticale like winter rye in that it takes off quickly? If you graze it early it will keep coming back? I'm concerned about hoof damage to the new alfalfa/grass mix coming up underneath. Should I try to mow and wrap for baleage before it heads out? What is the best use for this triticale/pea mix? This is an experiment, never tried trit before. I don't want to miss it's best nutrient stage.
