South Ga | I was helping a neighbor in the spring of 1996 who had just bought two low hour 4960s, he had several other smaller tractors(4450/55s) but, his whole operation centered around the 4960s for the big stuff, one to pull an 8 row ripper bedder and one for an 8 row hydra till. One afternoon I was driving one with the hydra till when it began making a strange noise in the rear differential area, it turned out (if I remember correctly) a ring gear bolt backed out and took out the ring and pinion and the differential. The day it came back from the shop I was driving the other one pulling the bedder, shut it down for lunch, cranked it up to return to work and engine knocking with white smoke from the exhaust=blown head gasket. I usually like green stuff but, they aren't perfect. | |
