NW Central Ohio | ...wow, planting alfalfa in an orchardgrass sod at 1/2" deep would be a challenge. I would have started last fall with a heavy dose of Glyphosate to get the orchardgrass clumps and any deep rooted perennial's headed south. Then I would figure on using a RR resistant variety so that I had a chance to get escaped things like dandelion or thistle killed in the crop. Cross drilling is an excellent idea...and using 20-25lbs. of seed would be my suggestion. You're not going to get great seed to soil contact drilling through all that sod...and more seed helps ameliorate that. | |
