Subject: corn development question

Cherokee County, Northwest Iowa
I rotary hoed some corn last week, and was wondering if, in theory, if the sprout was right below the crust, hadn't poked thru yet, and the hoe cuts the sprout in half, will that corn seedling live or die? I know that you can cut corn plant off at the ground for quite a while and it will survive because the infamous growing point is still below ground. but what if the sprout hasn't seen daylight yet, and gets cut in half? thanks. bruce.
