Interesting post. I think you are getting into "bonding" - a common ground - and separating the whites and green/grounds. I would assume the original poster's free stall barn with electronics and an electrician has a ground at his main meter and at each building main panel. Two ground rods per panel are the code here. That is obviously the place to start.

I do feel devices such as the Delta protectors can help in many lightning and surge situations, once the panels are properly grounded.

My electrician has told me that the new code requirement of separating the white and green wires all the way out to the meter is critical to eliminating stray voltage. It seems like separating the white and green would also be worthwhile with a lot of expensive and sensitive electronics susceptible to surges, especially in a dairy, given the effects of stray voltage on cows.
