Economies where nothing is made (no value added) are not strong. Services can go somewhere else overnight (if that long). A combination of willingness of folks to start a business adding value to real stuff seems to be dropping and it doesn't help that the gubamint puts up new road blocks every day. A population on welfare just isn't the economic force we were told it would be.

Kind of an off the wall example if anyone is considering running a line of school buses: School bus companies are not hugely profitable (but not terrible). Bus drivers are paid a reasonable hourly rate but the payable hours are pretty small. Now various regulators are upping penalties for drivers making any mistake with kids (that have absolutely no sense of responsibility) criminal offenses (kid falls asleep on bus and misses his/her stop and ends up back at the garage). To complete their misery you can not kick a kid off for bad behavior (even after a death threat in one case). So regulators think they are creating the perfect bus environment for the little monsters when, in reality, economics of the situation are causing drivers to leave and potential drivers to consider other driving opportunities. None are considering some sort of malpractice insurance. On the other hand, I saw a Chicago CTA bus driver drinking a beer while running the bus (it was st. pat's day/weekend so I guess it's ok).
