Definitely want to avoid broken mouth cows, even though my plan is to only have them around 2-3 years at most. Broken mouthers are pushing your luck at 3 years probably... Buying opens not my cup of tea, "here" open heifers are going to cost right the same as a 3 year old 3-6 mos bred will... so you're giving up money but you do know more of what you have when you do the breeding, so I see your point. I took out a short-term note for part of them, so would like to have at least a few to sell off of them to go towards that, although calves off of what I have would pay the note, just would like some of the new ones to pay for themselves.
