I am of the opinion that using a battery charger instead of a real battery is generally not a great idea as it can cause some problems with certain delicate electronics. Using a real battery with a charger connected to it is my preferred plan. The real battery tends to act as a "shock absorber" of sorts to condition the rather harsh ups/downs of the battery charger.
