Central Illinois
My biggest thing is we are done putting wood in the ground on this farm. We built two new smaller buildings a few years back when they let you depreciate them in a year and regretted it almost instantly. 6 months after they were put up we started looking at existing buildings timbers and realized not one building on our farm was securely attached to the ground (except the two newest) One building was only 20 years old. Amazingly the best shape was our oldest building as it predated epa rules, but even it only has/had a few posts left. Thus no more wood in the ground. I dont expect the tarp to last 20 years but I want to be able to replace the tarp and leave the trusses in tact with minimal work to put on a new tarp every 10-15 years or as needed. The last thing I would want is a hoop barn to catch a wind and not be attached to the ground due to rotted posts.
