Subject: Stubborn calf keeps hanging on...

perryton, tx
I have a 24 day old calf I posted about before that I don't believe ever got a drop of colostrum or any milk at all for his first 2 days. By day 4 he was so sick that I was sure death was only a matter of a few hours away, but with the help of an antibiotic and banamine he somehow improved although he's had to be treated 2 more times since then. Then at some point his momma stepped on him, and since then he's been limping on one of his back legs. Then came the real kicker a couple of days ago when I found him with his head pinned underneath the bale ring-luckily I don't think the weight was enough to hurt him but he used a lot of energy he can't spare trying to get out from underneath it. Through it all he's managed to drag himself up to nurse and he's getting at least enough milk from the cow to keep going. I keep thinking he'll either get better or die but he doesn't seem interested in doing either.
