Drip is effective and proven. The number on water savings is either side of 25% vs pivot, up to 50% vs. Flood. The big problem I have with drip is the lifespan. After 20 years a pivot might be
worth 50% of initial purchase. It can be updated and worked on easily. It's easier to variable rate application. And it is far cheaper in terms of initial cost. Drip will run 1800/acre vs a full corner system at less than 1000...and a standard pivot at around 6-700/acre. After 20 years drip lifespan is unknown . Lot of money to put on the line vs a known commodity of pivot irrigation.
