It's also interesting at a time of the development of the wheat pools and subsequent development of Cooperatives why any one farmer would be speculating in wheat.

May be but my grandfather traded cattle quite a bit back in the day. And he had plenty on the ground as well. I think he was a better cash trader than paper trader from what I gather. But maybe those were just "hedge losses". LOL He was successful in any event.
