Maybe you can look at it like that. I don't know the specifics about his plan, but perhaps it would allow you to use your payment schedule as expenses, instead of having the two completely decoupled as it is now. And yes....right now your payments or lack thereof have literally nothing to do with your depreciation schedule.

It might make leasing large equipment a better option than owning. The only reason we own large equipment now is that we perceive it to be advantageous due to the tax code. Otherwise there is no reason why a small/medium farmer would buy a $250,000 combine to use for a few weeks a year.

Trying to get a handle on all the tangential benefits/detriments of overhauling the tax code goes beyond a mere mortal's brain. And because of that I doubt any change would take less than a generation to implement.
