About ten years ago we did a trial comparing fifteen inch row corn to thirty inch row corn.  Without going into great detail, the fifteens were at a small disadvantage to the thirties with respect to how they were planted.  However.... the fifteens out-yielded the thirties by 17 percent.

The next year we bought a split planter and haven't looked back.
