Subject: RE: I'm with Rich a little on this one

"......but what you just drew up to consider in your plan makes it almost impossible to have one. You threw so many variables out there that if you follow them all you would be dang close to having no plan at all."

I used to feel that way until I bit the bullet and just did it.  I still make mistakes, one blunder in 07 wheat and another this past market year on 08 wheat.  Now looking at marketing for 09 wheat, I have already goofed by failing to pull the trigger on a forward contract before price went to hell.  Knew when I needed to set a contract price, just drug my feet to long and now it is too late.

Old plans still work, the dollars are larger and so are the movements, yet basics are the same.  No new plateau, no new schemes.  The biggest change is the need for a good exist strategy which is a part of the plan that hasn't been used for about 30 years.

I don't like the large shifts in prices anymore than you or Rich, but that is the game you get in when you want to raise and market commodities.  As I keep telling my son, the days of sell at harvest, to the bank to pay notes and home with the rest left us in the late '60s and early '70s.  Today it is dog eat dog and no one cares if you, I, Rich or plowboy go broke trying to market our product.

Kind a makes me want to take a nap now.  2 inches of rain yesterday and no crop in the ground. DAMN  Mud just won't go away.
