Alton, Ia
We live in a valley, in an area of poor coverage to begin with. My wife has to stand in a certain spot in our family room to make calls with her phone. Pretty frustrating. I had an LG 4400, and it was okay, but not great. My plan was ending like yours, so when I signed up for a new one they gave me a Samsung POS. Could not keep calls, dropped probably 100 in a week. Went back and got a Motorola V 325. Had to pay $80, and supposedly will get a $50 rebate, but if it works that's cheap. It has been excellent. I can make calls in areas I've never done before, during rain, sunshine, whatever. (Is it just me, or do others think reception is better on overcast days? Clouds keep the signal bounced back to the ground?)

It has a lot more features than I think I need right now, such as a camera, but I am sure with time I'll use that occasionally. It has voice dialing, which I've had before and it's great in the pickup, but for some reason never worked too well in the combine. A little too noisy, I guess. I also don't think it has an external antenna connection, but it might. Have to read the manual ;)

I did some web surfing for a repeater system for our house prior to getting this phone, it was close to $1000 by the time I was done, plus my work to install. Was planning on a Yagi outdoor antenna, mounted up high away from trees, repeater and internal antenna in the house. If this phone continues to work well, we will buy a second one for my wife and go that route. Very slightly used ones are on Ebay for <$100.

Not syaing it's the best, but it is working very well for us.
