When Tier IV goes into effect in 2010, the exhaust coming out of your "common" diesel engine will be cleaner than the breathing air in many large cities. However, to boost the engine efficiencies to meet that emissions standard, more fuel will be used. I have heard numbers ranging from 5-10% decrease in fuel economy when Tier IV goes into effect.
Emissions why did we let it get this far?
