Subject: Re: Sales Tax on a Snowblower

I believe different states have different tax laws. here in Indiana ag. equipment is tax exempt. There are a few exceptions. One that comes to mid is mowers, batwings & such. If it's used for soley chopping cornstalks then it is tax exempt. But if it is uded to mow roadsides for to clip a pasture then sales tax applies. State came into the dealerships a couple years ago & unless the purchaser could prove it was used 100% for agricultural purpose guys who had bought mowers got a tax notice, 1st from the dealer like you & if they didn't pay up the state sent a notice with penalty if not paid by a certain date.

Illinois is tax exemp on farm machinery as well. A few years ago the state tried to do away with the ag tax exemption. Deally caused a ruckus & delaers were complaining about the amount of sales they would lose to neighboring states that had ag exemption. Governor finally backed down.
