Shaftsbury, Vermont (SW VT) | I have a Case 2294 sitting in my bay, ready to ship home, except I need a steering shaft. To make a long story short, the original problem was hydraulic pump drive failure, and our trucker winched it on and brought it to the shop. Somewhere in the loading and unloading, the steering quit (thought the steering system finally ran out of oil?), so we pushed it into the shop, and by jacking up the front end, got it in the bay. I got it fixed, and the cab back on Saturday, and fired it up. Still no steering, wheel just spins; everything else works. Whoops! U-joint is broken on the telescoping shaft. Wish I'd seen that sooner. Anyway, looked at the parts CD, it doesn't look like what i have here. Called the Case dealer, and he faxed up a copy of an old service bulletin, where there was an update on certain 90,94,96 series row crop tractors, some 4WD's, and some maxxum and magnums. Dated sometime in '94, it expired in '95. It appears this tractor wasn't done then, the serial # tag isn't stamped to indicate it was done. PIP kit is no longer available, but the parts are; for about $800!!! Anybody else ever run into this? I don't expect Case to stand behind a PIP this much later; I'm sure Uncle John wouldn't either. Just did not expect to have to spend this much more of the customer's money on what appears to be a simple problem.
Sorry for the rant. Your turn to set me straight. Oliver durand |
