BTW, I don't let sharecrop landlords make decisions either. I'm not putting my business in the hands of someone who doesn't know what they are doing....I'm the expert in the room. Its like a patient telling the doctor how to perform an operation...who is in charge here?
The IRS doesn't want them making decisions either. If they make too many decisions they become "actively engaged" in farming. That changes the income from "rental" to "earned" and makes them pay self employment tax on it. I guess if a LL really ticked you off with his meddling, you could report him. I wouldn't count on ever renting another piece of ground again though - from anybody. |
