North Central Texas | 30 miles each side of I35 both are grown. West of that all hard and to the east mostly soft. Lot more hard wheat varieties are grazers also.
The yields are usually lighter on the hard but the premium has been running over $1. This year it's only .70. Less bu and less fertilizer to make the same gross per acre.
The sprout is usually worse here on the hard wheat. This year it doesn't seem to matter because it is all sprouting.
Fannin, duster, jackpot, iba have all made 80-100 bu. Fannin has been one of the few consistant high yeilders. Many of the varieties we have had will hit high for 3 or 4 years and then they become max 50bu yielders. | |
