Subject: RE: shop building question

Pontiac, IL.
If you are talking overhead hoist, IMO, if you have a forklift, forget it. When we built our shop 12 years ago, I put anchor bolts in the floor for a hoist. 2 years later, before I got the hoist installed, I bought a forklift. The overhead hoist idea went on the back burner, and has never been installed. As a mechanic, you may use a hoist more than most, but in my case, the forklift does "just fine". Just my opinion, and as the saying goes: "Opinions are like A-holes, everyone has one". On the floor/car wash question, we sloped our complete floor, (excluding the office) to a center drain. Approximately 1/4" per ft. This makes washing vehicles and cleaning/scrubbing the shop a lot easier. If doing it over again, I would do the same. IF, you are doing a lot of fabricating, where you would want a level floor, this may not be ideal. But in our case, I love the sloped floor. Again, just my opinion.
