You didn't mention the age of your FIL but to say that he wants out in 5-6 years. I am willing to bet you that if you do nothing, 15-16 years from now he will still be calling the shots and you will still be his slave.
I can't understand this generation that can't give up control but also can't understand why "junior" doesn't want to farm. Have to let the next generation have a chance at it.
